È più conveniente iniziare con un tutor, altrimenti si perde tempo e si memorizzando errori. Da soli si può andare avanti per il perfezionamento

Hello,
It really depends on your needs and the goals that you set.
If your intention is merely to read a few articles and listen to Italian music, then take your time and continue learning by yourself, but it's going to take a few years.
On the other hand, if you wish to communicate properly in Italian, being able to travel for tourism, business or leisure, then you should be guided by a tutor.
This is my personal opinion as a professional language teacher. Please feel free to contact me for any further information.
Kind regards
RS

Sorry for late answer but I haven't been here for long. I have just updated my profile in here. To answer to your question, tutors make the difference in everything you want to learn. Nowadays with internet and online material you can learn by yourself barely anything. From languages to workout routines and so on. However, the experience that a professional tutor/teacher has it makes the process more effective and you have somebody who can answer all your questions right away. Imagine you try to learn nouns and adjective coordination in Italian. If you do it by yourself you'll notice lots of irregular situations where rules do not apply. If you have a tutor teaching you that you can skip a long process of learning and understanding. Besides a tutor really makes the difference in learning a language in two more fields:
1) Motivation (a good teacher/tutor tends to motivate you more and more and to make the class as fun as possible)
2) Pronunciation (only by listening and talking to a native teacher you can learn how to pronounce correctly, in this case interaction is key)
I hope I have answered to your question buy if you still not satisfied feel free to ask again, this time I promise I'll answer faster than before.
Regards
Roberto

I think it is a very good idea if you can start studying the basic grammar by yourself and reach out to a tutor when you feel you want to start practicing and really learning the language. Anyhow, even when you work with a tutor, it is very important that you keep on studying by yourself. I think language tutoring should be a support to your learning process.
