Learn English
Mentorship sessions for ESL, FSL or other second-language teachers. Each session will address the strategies you are presently using, suggestions to build upon these foundations, current research on best practices for language development and additional methods. Ready to use materials are provided.
My experience teaching ESL in three different countries and with a wide range of students has helped me to develop a large tool kit of engaging strategies and methods. Gone are the days of text book language learning. From PWIM to TPR, methods need to engage students so that language can be imprinted in their angular gyrus, Wernicke's area and Broca's area of the brain.
During the first session, clients will be asked to talk about their previous training and techniques they use in the classroom. Together we will identify areas that require further growth (e.g. how to develop student's vocabulary, using audio/video to support understanding). A selection of techniques to support this growth will be identified and modelled with materials that the client can take with them. The next lesson will follow up on the techniques and provide further clarification as needed. My role is to support your developing professional skills and be a sounding board for new ideas.

Jenny-Lyn is a very professional teacher. She is attentive, serious, generous and patient. She gave me the tools I need to speak, listen and write in English. Thanks to Jenny-Lyn I have seen progress in my knowledge of English. I recommend Jenny-Lyn 10/10.Daniel, Ottawa
My name is Jenny-Lyn and I am a teacher who works with adult, elementary (Grade 1 to 6) and ELL (English Language Learner) education. I was born in Ontario, Canada and have finished a Humanities B.A. in Toronto. I was fortunate to gain two and half years of teaching experience with adult learners in Japan but was ready to return to the classroom after completing a Diploma of Education in Melbourne, Australia.
I taught in Nunavut, Canada with ELL students between 5 and 8 years of age while also running a literacy remediation program for adults. While living in Ottawa, Canada for seven years, I was an elementary educator with the Ottawa Carlton District School Board. I have moved out of the city and am refocusing my career on the subject I am most passionate about, second language learning. I look forwards to working with you on your language goals. :)
