(TV/Movie advance listening, cultural appreciating)
If you can speak English, know grammar and vocabulary, but have difficulty listening to native speakers, movies/TV shows - this course is for you. We cover listening to natural speed, reductions, idioms, English humor. The Goal is watching movies/TV shows to explore native English while relaxing.
We use TV shows and scripts to identify what parts of English speaking you are unable to hear/recognize. We identify your weak points and strengthen your ability to hear English at a natural, even a faster than natural speed. When finished with the course, you will be able to view any movies, or TV shows and hear what is being said. You will better understand idioms and English humor. That is one of the best ways to understand more English, while relaxing and being entertained at the same time.
The program runs in two parts. Each part is 16 weeks. (16 classes)
Part 1 runs from April - July.
Part 2 runs from September - December.
Minimum number of students to run the class is 1, maximum is 4.
Each class is 55 minutes.
Part one introduces forms of reduction that are difficult to catch in spoken English For example, Object pronouns are often reduced, especially him and them - with them sounds like - with'um. with him also sounds like - with'um
We also look at how English makes jokes. Surprise is usually the bases for English humor. Puns, Double entendre and word play are all part of what makes English speakers laugh.

I have a BA in Journalism from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, in the USA. I graduated in 1995. I also have a fine arts degree in Photography which involved a lot of TV and Film courses.
I have taught at conversation schools, business colleges, kindergartens, high schools and universities. I have been teaching English for over 20 years, 15 years in Sapporo.
